Microsoft says Windows 8 Won’t require hardware upgrades

In a possible attempt to spur Windows 7 adoption Microsoft confirmed today that Windows 8 will carry similar or even lower hardware requirements to those of Windows 7. Meaning unlike the leap from XP to say Vista any computer currently running Windows 7 will be upgradable to Windows 8 when the next version of Windows is released.

Speaking at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, Steve Ballmer revealed that Windows 7 has officially sold 400 million licenses to-date. Despite those numbers Windows XP still holds nearly twice the market share worldwide.

PSP Vita – Pre Orders have started!

Its not often that I share spam with everyone.  But today I got another one of them e-mails that contained a very interesting little bit of spam advertizing.

Famitsu Leads with More Monster Hunter Tri G 3DS Details

A few new details on Monster Hunter 3G and Nintendo‘s new slide pad peripheral have surfaced following our initial report from earlier in the day.

Like all the “G” titles, Monster Hunter 3G is an expanded version of its predecessor, in this case Wii‘s Monster Hunter 3. The 3G version will include a few changes to the world of the Wii version, but will live up to the G name of being packed with content.

The MH3 water elements that were absent from PSP‘s Monster Hunster Portable 3rd, also an expanded version of MH3, are in MHP3G. The game is said to have a slightly different control feel for its water segments, while still retaining the overall feel of 3′s water play.

ToyToyota’s Backseat Driver app lets kids drive with their Dad

There’s nothing more difficult than trying to keep your kids entertained in the car, especially when you’re driving with them on your own. So Toyota has developed an iPhone app under a new “ToyToyota” brand called Backseat Driver ( iTunes) that allows kids to join in the driving experience in real-time using some clever GPS technology.

As you can see in this video, the app allows the user to drive along in real-time and collect points by picking up objects along the way. These objects can relate to real world landmarks that the car drives past, and points are collected to allow the player to upgrade their virtual car.

Is this Nintendo’s 3DS joystick add-on?

Reports from the Japanese end of the internet are claiming that Famitsu magazine has the scoop on that Nintendo 3DS analog add-on we heard about last month. A page from the magazine (above) shows a rather meaty cradle hugging the sides of the stereoscopic clamshell, reportedly adding an R2 button in addition to a starboard circle pad. The plump peripheral may have been designed specifically for Monster Hunter Tri G, an unannounced (and unconfirmed) game that was leaked in the same issue. Famitsu made no mention of the reported hardware refresh that accompanied the last analog add-on rumor — and price, release date, and official confirmation from Nintendo area still AWOL, of course.

Batman Arkham City: Robin Edition “GAME” Exclusive!

The rumors of a “Robin Edition” exclusive to PS3 have been slapped in the face by the back hand of Righteous justice!

I received an e-mail today from GAME store explaining the exclusive offer

Customers who pre-order Batman: Arkham City from GAME or Gamestation will receive exclusive access to the Tim Drake Robin DLC pack, unlocking the sidekick as a fully playable character in the title’s improved challenge mode.

Robin will boast his own unique gadgets and special moves and be playable in all challenge maps in the game, as well as two additional challenge maps included with the DLC – Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape. The offer will also contain a Red Robin character skin.

iPhone 5 – tip off reveals a possable 21st October 2011 release date

The latest retailer tip in the great iPhone 5 release date conjecture game of 2011 sees Best Buy pegging the long-rumoured handset for a 21 October release.

The tip comes by way of This Is My Next, which received a screengrab of a memo that details an early start time on that date, in an event titled “Apple Fixture Installation”.

According to the anonymous source, the same kind of out-of-the-ordinary timings were put in place for the iPhone 4 retail release.

Apple to drop support for first gen iPhone

You could see the writing on the wall when Apple announced iPhone OS 4. Apple said most of the features will run on the iPhone 3G, and all would run on the iPhone 3GS. At no point did they mention the first generation iPhone. Steve Jobs has now confirmed what many assumed.

MacStories has published an email a reader sent to Jobs asking if Apple will supply updates to the first gen iPhone in the future. Steve’s answer? “Sorry, no.” So unless Apple releases another minor point upgrade to iPhone OS 3 before OS 4′s release, original iPhone owners can expect to be running iPhone OS 3.1.3 for as long as they keep the device.

Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition

Batman: Arkham Asylum’s Game of the Year Edition isn’t the typical repackaging one would expect. Square Enix London Studios has announced today that the GOTY edition, featuring TriOviz 3D technology, can be played in 3D on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. The edition even includes 3D glasses to make stalking through Gotham’s famous insane asylum all the more immersive.

The TriOviz tech, if you’re unfamiliar, works with regular HD and SD sets, and doesn’t rely on red and blue lenses, meaning colors are preserved.

The GOTY edition, which also includes all six DLC challenge maps for extra value, will be available in Europe and all PAL territories on March 26.

Project Natal: All your living space are belong to me

Microsoft announced earlier that the newly antisipated gaming gadget of the year (well, we at GCS think so) will require atleast 13 feet of space in your gameing room. Thats a distance of about about 4 Metres away from your TV/Monitor.

Craig Mundie (Microsoft’s Chief research and stratagy officer) is reported to have said “To be precice, you’ll want to clear an area extending at least 4 metres away from the television. Thats the back edge of the space to be taken into account by the Natal sensors”
